Throughout diverse cultures, fairy tales and folk legends can be accessed at two different levels; either as entertaining tales with a moral message, or well-disguised, deep esoteric truths revealing secrets about the human psyche or the hidden realms.
One puzzling factor has always caught the attention of students of folk stories. Amongst the great variety of cultures, similarities in the details keep surfacing. Dragons breathe fire, whether in the folk tales of Peru or China. Unicorns are beneficial and healing in their interactions with man. Fairies fly and have great magical power; elves continue to delight and bring whimsy and humor to life.
Not only have these tales come from a far distant past before consciousness fell with each successive global cataclysm, but also from times when mankind as a whole could not read or write. Among the Mayans and other indigenous peoples, some sages or rulers strenuously resisted writing among their people. They knew that words or symbols would lull man into thinking he knew something because he’d named it. With a word or symbol representing an object such as a specific flower, its essence was no longer felt through the heart. In other words, that real world lying beyond form was no longer accessed.
In this way, the non-cognitive information of the universe around him became unavailable as man slowly sank into a world of logic and reason. With this shift, nine-tenths of his reality disappeared as he lost the right brain oriented tools to discern and communicate with it. Fairies, pixies, unicorns and the other beings of the magic kingdoms, without whom the earth would not flourish, became delegated to the realms of myth and fiction. As centuries passed, they continued to fade ever further across the horizon of human perception.
But because we have changed, doesn’t mean they have ceased to be. As awareness on the planet begins to rise to the levels from which it sank, more and more of us will once again be able to communicate with the beings of these magic kingdoms, finding them delighted to befriend and aid us.
