As we mentioned in our post yesterday we are quite excited about the contest for people who are on the Ask Almine Anything 3 online course. The contest is to make your version of a Song of a Direction. Below we are posting an example by Almine -a Song of the West-, to inspire those on the course and spark our regular readers’ imagination. Pretty soon Almine’s example of the Song of the East will be posted here as well.
In the meantime, if this post triggers something inside of you, please do check out this radioshow here for more on living the Song of the West, the intuitive life, or this radioshow here for more on living the Song of the South, the authentic life. In this upcoming weekend’s Awakening from the Dream radio show, Else and Niels will discuss combining the Songs of the South and West together in a daily practice of living a life of spiritual mastery.
The Song of the West
I restlessly listen to the late night breeze
Baring its soul to the older trees
As the moon looks over the abyss of the night
The silent whisperings of autumn leaves
Speak of the stories of forgotten dreams
Philosophers they are, of the human plight
And divine discontent within me awakes
To know the mysteries of un-remembered places,
As the clock’s footsteps wander to the other side of midnight
As the sound of the ocean, in heaving motion
Dashes itself against the shore
The lonely cry, like a fore-lorn sigh,
Of a foghorn through the misty night
My soul heeds the call, and with greedy fingers reaches
For mystical kingdoms beyond my ken
Where fairies play in starlit glens
And dragon wings rend the air in flight
The west wind whispers, for the west wind knows
The secrets of magic, as it blows
Of the ways of the West; of a mystical quest,
That yields treasure untold to the soul…
Barbara says
I just noticed this post, and realise how it reflects the normal experience of a cat who came to live with us. He transmitted this poem to me for his boy:
Léo shares his Way
Green is my favourite colour.
Long stalks of green touch me vibrantly along my passing flanks.
A long cat: many times longer than I look. I have no end.
Wide paws catch dreams, long tales of newness.
I am alert to every whiff that carries a tale of gentle wonder, of spicy intrigue.
I go in search of it,
master of this wide territory that curves ‘round the house,
from sun to shade, from wall to tree, to wide scented views alight or amist.
After my nighttime nap I slide through the small just-right space
in the door that they close against the night
to sit under the stars and absorb the tales of far worlds within me as above.
I come and go as a Cat, for I am Star-born and choose my form.
At night I visit where it pleases me.
While my small friend sleeps, we explore tales together in the night
as the body releases us to freer forms of discovery, uncovery.
Our paths criss-cross: they are not paths going anyplace;
they are patterns in a dance,
for Life is movement and Unknowing beckons.

Love it, Barbara!
marli says
Very beautiful!
It spoke to a deep part of me often awakened with poetry.
thanks.
Niels says
…because the west wind knows…Yes… these different poetries of the directions do mean a lot to me as well.
Marli, do listen to our latest radio shows of Awakening from the Dream… in them the last 10 minutes are spend discussing living the directions as archetypal gateways to a life of spiritual mastery… just a thought…
Thanks for the comment!
